2) Sponsoring Research Projects.
a) The Cornwall Butterfly and Moth Society PhD Studentship
The Cornwall Butterfly and Moth Society PhD Studentship will be carried out over four years and will commence in April 2019. This project will not only investigate the importance of mine sites for butterflies, moths and bees but will also examine how to integrate the mine sites with the Buglife's B-Line pathways project. Details of Buglife’s project and the University project can be obtained by speaking to our Secretary Keith Wilson. CBMS has agreed to give grants totalling worth £27,000 (including Gift Aid) to Exeter University for the research. It is anticipated that this money will not be taken from our reserves but will be donated over the next four years by some of our members and other supporters. CBMS has already received firm commitments to donate £25,000 of this money.

b) A21 Student Widening Participation Funding
This fund helps undergraduate students, who meet the Widening Participation (WP) Criteria arrange a 4 week (140 hour) paid internship with a UK: SME (an organisation with less than 250 employees) registered Charity, Statutory Organisation or University of Exeter Academic or Professional Service, by fully subsidising the cost of the internship wages. Funding will be paid to the internship organisation who must pay you through their own payroll system (eClaims if at the University) and employ you. A bursary may also be available to help with any personal costs on a UK paid internship. All funds are issued on a first-come-first-serve basis. Funding applications close Friday 13th May 2022 for internships at the University of Exeter, and Friday 10th June 2022 for all other qualifying internships. Students can apply for one employer subsidy and one 'Help Getting to Work' bursary, if eligible, per year.

c) Drone and Heat Sensor Project
This is an Exeter University Project but is funded by CBMS. Money has been taken from our reserves to enable the university to make an early start with this research project which involves the use of drones and heat sensors. Details of this project can also be obtained by speaking to our Secretary. Additional funding has been given to the University by one of our members to fund the remaining costs of the project.
d) Drone 3D Imaging Project
A further project is being planned for 2019 and this will involve the use of a drone to produce 3D images of our conservation site at Trelusback. It is hoped that this project will enable the conservation work to be planned more precisely than is normally possible.
